Composting Conversations
Did you know that food scraps account for nearly 33% of most people's trash? Although these materials are not technically "recyclable," they can be composted!
Composting is the process by which micro-organisms decompose organic material, producing a nutrient rich soil amendment for your garden or house plants. Recycle BOG encourages all residents, businesses, and institutions to consider composting as a way of living lighter on the land.
It is always best to develop conservative practices in your own day to day activities whenever possible. In the case of composting this means you would compost your own food and yard wastes. In the event you cannot or need help in learning the hows and whys of composting, including a resource to locate equipment necessary for such endeavors, Recycle BOG would like to discuss becoming the community based Non profit organization that can help our community with those needs.
In the case of commercial and other enterprises including residences where composting is not practical we are beginning to investigate places and practices that will allow us to provide that service. The outcome will be the development of some at least part time employment and a local resource for top quality guaranteed clean compost materials for your gardening needs.
Nutrient Analysis of Compost Products
Before opening for business as a local source of clean, safe composted soil products we will regularly test our compost and soil products to ensure that our customers are getting the best quality products available. Compost analysis will also be done as part of the certification requirements of the US Composting Council’s Seal of Testing Assurance program (STA).Additional Product Analysis
In addition to analysis of physical characteristics, nutrients, metals, pathogens, and phytoxicity, Compost Products will be regularly tested for levels of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs). PAHs are a group of compounds formed from incomplete combustion that are normally present in varying concentrations in urban and other environments.
